Every kid has a story to tell
They need a safe space to share their experiences and make sense of them.
Children with refugee backgrounds often endure severe trauma, yet they lack the necessary support. We must harness their resilience, strength, and hope.
StoryKid is committed to creating change with tech-enabled therapy that is:
- Inclusive and accessible in displacement, where mental health care is limited, and cultural and language barriers exist.
- Creative and playful, so children can own their life stories and feel empowered to rebuild their futures.
Proven method
Our approach is grounded in Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), developed in collaboration with psychotrauma experts, and informed by knowledge from the NET Institute.
How it works
Guided by therapeutic professionals, children aged 6-12 create a lifeline—marking traumatic experiences as stones and beautiful moments as flowers. This creative process helps them to better understand who they are, opening up to their past, present, and future. At the end, they receive a personalized booklet that tells their story, serving as an empowering keepsake.
Safety is our top priority
- We work only with the consent and involvement of primary caretakers.
- The app is a tool, supported by real-life therapeutic guides who engage with the children and provide empathetic support.
We don’t replace traditional treatment—we complement it with storytelling to improve well-being.
Innovative delivery
Our application is mobile
We go where we are needed with a treasure of animation tools to help children express their emotions tied to significant life events and their dreams for the future.
Our approach is inclusive
We are culturally sensitive. The app is available in multiple languages, and children can choose diverse avatars that look like them.
